#blogbookaday: Everything You Need For a Treehouse

Everything You Need For a TreehouseSummary:  “Featuring beautiful images and a lyrical text with an exquisitely readable cadence, this book gives life and meaning to all the requisite elements of a treehouse, from time, timber, and rafters to ropes of twisted twine that invite visitors to sprawl out on a limb and slide back down again. For anyone who’s ever wanted to escape real life and live in a nostalgic dream come true, this poignant picture book captures the universal timelessness of treehouses and celebrates all the creativity and adventure they spark. ” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: I’m a huge fan of Carter Higgins, so when I saw she had a new picture book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. And let me tell you, it does not disappoint. I loved the poetic description of treehouses that invoke wonder and joy. And I think Emily Hughes created drawings that really make each tree the focus of the page and then you get to pour over how each treehouse is a little different, how there is a diversity among the kids that makes me smile and honestly, how could you argues with that beautiful library treehouse! That is absolutely gorgeous! This is the perfect story for hot summer day, hiding in the shade of a treehouse with a cold glass of lemonade. And if you don’t have a treehouse, sitting under a tree is almost as perfect.

Personal Reaction: My dad built us a treehouse in our backyard growing up – and it was perfect! Standing among the small grove of trees, a basic platform, ladder and a multi-colored tarp over our heads. I spent a lot of time with books out in that tree house as a kid. Now my parents live in a log cabin home on a beautiful property, but with no treehouse. I’m not sure how long that will last as now that my niece and nephew are around, I can see my dad building another treehouse for the next generation, which I think would be pretty awesome. And as Carter says, “Everything you need for a treehouse starts with time and looking up.”

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
