#blogbookaday: Ocean Meets Sky

Ocean Meets Sky.jpgSummary:  “Finn lives by the sea and the sea lives by him. Every time he looks out his window it’s a constant reminder of the stories his grandfather told him about the place where the ocean meets the sky. Where whales and jellyfish soar and birds and castles float.

Finn’s grandfather is gone now but Finn knows the perfect way to honor him. He’ll build his own ship and sail out to find this magical place himself!
And when he arrives, maybe, just maybe, he’ll find something he didn’t know he was looking for.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Finn’s grandfather has passed away, but that doesn’t stop Finn from building his very own boat to go on the adventure of a lifetime – reaching the place where ocean meets sky that his grandfather told him stories about. With the help of a great golden fish, Finn travels to the moon and back on his grandfather’s birthday, living the stories he was always told.

Personal Reaction: The Fan Brothers create some of the most atmospheric picture books on the market. With dream-like illustrations that fit perfectly with this story of Finn and his grandfather’s stories, the Fan Brothers build a beautiful world of the Library Islands, Giant seashells, steampunk-ish ships of all types and at the base of it all a grandson’s love for his grandfather’s stories. This is a book that begs you to spend time pouring over the story and drawings to get the most of it.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
