#blogbookaday: Things To Do

Things To DoSummary:  “With playful prose and vivid art, Things to Do brings to life the small moments and secret joys of a child’s day. There are wonders everywhere. In the sky and on the ground—blooming in a flower bed, dangling from a silken thread, buzzing through the summer air—waiting …waiting to be found. In this thoughtful and ingenious collection of poems, Elaine Magliaro, an elementary school teacher for more than three decades and a school librarian for three years, and illustrator Catia Chien provide a luminous glimpse of the ordinary wonders all around us.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A beautiful way to introduce young children to poetry and to look at the small wonders of the world and enjoy each and every one of them. I love when the text and illustrations of a book come together so seamlessly and that neither one outshines the other. I love the way the text is in different fonts and colors to stress certain words and each of those colors matches the colors on the page.

Personal Reaction: I loved these small little poems that take everyday things you find in nature and make you stop and think about them just a little bit more. My favorite poem was the on about the rain, the imagery created with such perfect words to describe rains was perfect! And with a book like this, it would be easy to create a project to have kids write their own poems that start with “Things to do if you are __________________”.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
