Whose Boat?

Whose BoatSynopsis: “This nonfiction ode to boats features six kinds of workers and their boats—a patrol boat, a tugboat, a car ferry, a lobster boat, a lifeboat, and a fireboat—with important parts properly labeled. The answer to each inquiring refrain lies under a gatefold, engaging the reader in an informative guessing game. With lyrical (and factual!) text by New York Times–bestselling author Toni Buzzeo, and the stylized art of Tom Froese, this sturdy board book is perfect for curious and playful young readers.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: In the same vein of other books in the series, Whose Boat? focuses on full page flaps to teach kids about different kinds of boats (which is a nice reprieve from all the cars and truck books). I loved that every page had a diverse cast of characters with men and women taking the reins of each boat. It’s amazing how showing diversity in race and gender allows kids to see themselves as tugboat pilots or lobster boat workers. Even those landlocked kids who might never see a ferry, they get educated about the different parts of each boat and see that men and women and people of all races can do all different types of work.

Booktalk (280ish characters or less): With interactive flaps, Whose Boat? is a great transportation reprieve from all the cars and trucks books! With each boat and parts labeled, I learned something and I’m sure kids will too!
