#blogbookaday: Noisy Night

Noisy NightSummary:  “It’s a noisy night in this city building! The residents of each floor can hear their neighbors above them, and are wondering what’s going on above their heads. Climb floor by floor and page by page to find out whose singing, dancing, cheering, and cooing are keeping a grumpy old man awake.
With innovative split-level spreads that offer the feeling of climbing an apartment building floor by floor, this clever and colorful collaboration between New York Times bestselling author Mac Barnett and gifted illustrator Brian Biggs offers an irresistible investigation of one noisy night.

Review: It’s nighttime, but no one is sleeping in this noisy apartment building as each downstairs neighbor wonders what is happening above their head. With everything from sheep to babies, cowboys to cheerleaders it’s a very noisy night in the city.

Personal Reaction: I’m a huge fan of both Mac Barnett and Brian Biggs, in fact I just spent the weekend reading the Tinyville Town books for my nephew (his favorite is I Am a Firefighter). I can just see kids getting a huge kick out of guessing who’s above each neighbor from the small clue given about the sound they’re making. This is a fun book to share with kids as you don’t often see apartment living in picture books – plus the characters and repetitive text work well with a large audience.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!

This has got to be one of my favorite storytime books! I like to pair it with a discussion of different kinds of homes people live in. Then I ask how would you get to the top of the apartment as a segue to singing the Elevator Song with the parachute!
