#blogbookaday: Floaty – Literacious
Summary: “Blah! Mr. Raisin is a bit of a grump. He lives all alone in a little house, and he likes it that way just fine. One day, a mysterious basket appears on Mr. Raisin’s doorstep. When he opens it up, it seems there’s nothing inside . . . until he notices a floating dog bobbing along his ceiling. What follows is a heartwarming, hilarious tale about embracing the unexpected—and finding friendship that takes you to new heights.” (Taken from Goodreads) Review: A grumpy old man gets a surprising package – a floating dog! Soon he’s feeding him and walking him and finds that he really does love Floaty the dog, but when an accident cause Floaty to float away, Mr. Raisin must do everything he can to find Floaty again. And I must say, I really did see that problem solving at the end – I don’t want to give anything way, just read the book! Personal Reaction: It’s amazing how much I felt for this grumpy old man when Floaty floated away – I was so sad for him! But, I think my favorite part was when Floaty stole all of Mr. Raisin’s covers because that’s how I feel about my dog every winter – she steals all the covers for herself! These are the types of books that remind that picture books can be amazingly powerful to those who read them. Title: Floaty Author: John Himmelman Illustrator: John Himmelman Publisher: Henry Holt & Company Publication Date: January 23, 2018 This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
