#blogbookaday: My Pet Wants a Pet
Summary: “Once there was a boy who wanted something to take care of. Something of his very own. He begged his mother for a puppy. Until she said YES!
The boy loved his puppy. He fed him and played with him and cuddled him. But soon, the dog wanted something to take care of–something of his very own. So the dog gets a pet cat; then the cat gets a pet bird; the bird gets a pet worm; the worm gets a pet flea . . . and on and on it goes as utter chaos ensues.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: A little boy wants, no needs a pet and so his mother finally allows him to pick out a puppy, but the boy takes care of the little puppy so well that the puppy soon wants a pet and on it goes until the little boy lives with his mother and five pets! The little boy soon learns how important it is for everyone to have something to love and care for and spends his days playing and caring for his many pets.
Personal Reaction: I adored this book for so many reasons – I love that mom and son don’t share the same skin color, I love how much the mom loves her son to let him have so many animals and I love how much the son loves the mom and realizes how much she needs to take care of something too! I loved seeing the little snippets of daily life as the boy asks his mother for each new pet (and the illustration of the little dog in a wheelchair was so sweet). The repetitive text and adorable illustrations are sure to make your little one want to read this one again and again.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
