#blogbookaday: Mary Had a Little Lab – Literacious
Summary: “Mary is an enterprising young inventor. She wants a pet, but it isn’t one she can easily buy…so she makes one with the Sheepinator! Mary’s pet sheep and her new invention make her popular with her classmates. But when she starts making sheep for her new friends, things go hilariously awry. Can Mary invent a way to fix this mess?” (Taken from Goodreads) Review: Mary is a hardworking scientist, but is also a little lonely, so she clips a little wool from a local sheep and creates the Sheepinator, making her very own pet sheep! Soon, her classmates are all clamoring for sheep, but things never work the way you plan and soon there are more sheep than people. Will Mary be able to herd the sheep away from town? This is an adorable rhyming story of a little girl who knows what she likes and isn’t afraid of a little hard work to get it. Personal Reaction: I loved the rhyming text – a great rhythm that works well on every page and would make this story a fun read aloud, especially for aSTEM-focused storytime. The illustrations were absolutely adorable, pairing really well with story and the puffball sheep are just the cutest! I think this would be a great story for boys and girls alike who are familiar with Mary Had a Little Lamb and are sure to giggle as they recognize how the author has changed this well-known nursery rhyme. Title: Mary Had a Little Lab Author: Sue Fliess Illustrator: Petros Bouloubasis Publisher: Albert Whitman Company Publication Date: March 1, 2018 This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
