#blogbookaday: All Aboard for the Bobo Road

All Aboard for the Bobo RoadSummary:  “All aboard for the Bobo Road! Fatima and Galo load the luggage while their dad Big Ali drives the bus. Help count on bikes, sacks of rice, melons and even goats and chickens as the bus travels past Gurunsi houses, the hippo lake, waterfalls and jungle, all the way to Bobo. With the authentic setting in Burkina Faso drawn from the author’s own experience, this is a wonderfully fun introduction for small children to an amazing culture. ” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Big Ali’s bus picks up people and goods along the Bobo Road, stopping at iconic sites throughout Burkina Faso. Throughout the story, the goods pile up including bikes, food, animals and more before finally getting to Bobo Station where everything is unloaded and the people on the bus go about their business. Fatima, Galo, and Big Ali sit down for a delicious meal after a long day of hard work! The bright illustrations showcase Burkina Faso in a gorgeous way and the text is simple enough for toddlers, but could be used through elementary school to introduce kids to this beautiful country.

Personal Reaction: I know very little about modern Africa and absolutely loved this small glimpse into a beautiful country. I also loved the counting aspect of this story making it so accessible to little ones and a great way to introduce a global perspective to little ones.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
