#blogbookaday: Hello Hello
Summary: “This gorgeous follow-up to the Caldecott Honor–winning They All Saw a Cat explores another aspect of seeing the world for young children. Beginning with two cats, one black and one white, a chain of animals appears before the reader, linked together by at least one common trait. From simple colors and shapes to more complex and abstract associations, each unexpected encounter celebrates the magnificent diversity of our world—and ultimately paints a story of connection. Brendan Wenzel’s joyous, rhythmic text and exuberant art encourage readers to delight in nature’s infinite differences and to look for—and marvel at—its gorgeous similarities. It all starts with a simple ‘Hello.'” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: All it takes is “Hello” a simple word to acknowledge the 92 animals that can be seen in this gorgeous book about the diversity of life on this planet. With a variety of media, Brendan is able to link the animals together in a single line that shows how all living things are connected. I really enjoyed the wide variety of animals, the rhyming text and how easily this book could work for toddlers through elementary and middle grade students. Conservation is a huge part of learning about the environment and this book would be a great place to begin.
Personal Reaction: I love Brendan Wenzel’s work – his perspective in They All Saw a Cat is a great way to get kids to look at the world a little differently. This book is filled with animals that are vulnerable and endangered and he gives information about how to help them in his author’s note. I loved seeing animals I’m familiar with and others that are exciting and new! This is a great book for kids concerned with helping the environment and animal lovers alike.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
