AtoZ Blogging Challenge – Knit Night

knittingProgram Name: Knit Night

What: Knit Night is an easy program to offer the community that allows knitters, crocheters and other textile artists a place to gather, talk, share tips and tricks and spend time working on their craft. We gear this program toward adults, but also allow older children and teens to attend if they’re interested

Where: This program can be hosted in any small meeting space, you could also meet in the library if a meeting space is unavailable.

When: We offer this program one evening a month for anyone who’s interested – no registration required and no specific program, just a meeting space for people to get together.

Who: We open this program up to adults and older kids and teens if they’re interested. What I love about this group is that it’s open to beginners through experts and patrons will help each other with patterns and getting set up which is so nice.

How: We have a retired librarian who likes knitting and crocheting and volunteers her time to oversee the program. It’s a pretty straight forward program and doesn’t require too much oversight by staff, but it’s good someone is in the program that can keep an eye on the patrons and the room.

Alternatives:

  • We did an arm knitting class for our middle school kids and they LOVED it!
  • I’d like to offer some more arts and crafts programs for adults (maybe even focusing on millennials) to bring more people in as these programs tend to be very popular!

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the 2018 Blogging from A to Z Challenge. For this year’s theme, I’ll be offering you a library program plan with everything you to need to re-create it at your own library. Most of these programs we’ve offered in the past, others are programs I’d like to try in the future. I’m always looking for new inspiration and I thought you might be too!
