AtoZ Blogging Challenge – Bullet Journaling

What: I tried to bullet journal a little bit last year and unfortunately I just didn’t keep up with it, but I’ve been wanting to offer a how-to bullet journal program at the library for a couple of months now. I think this would be a fairly easy program to put together – teach patrons what bullet journaling is, the different types of pages that can be designed and a way to get your first bullet journal started. I think having a computer and projector set up with specific examples of pages would be helpful to show patrons the variety of how people bullet journal by pulling up examples in Pinterest and on Instagram. You could even provide small basic journals for patrons to get started using.

Where: A smaller group would be helpful for something like this – because you’ll need to have everyone sitting at tables if you want people to actually set-up their own bullet journal with small notebooks, pens and colored pencils.

When: This program could be done for pre-teens and teens in August as a get organized for back to school program or could be done as a get organized program at the beginning of January as a New Year’s Resolution event.

Who: I think this would be of interest to kids 10 and up and adults, depending on how you want to market it.

How: Again, I’m looking for someone who already bullet journals who would be willing to teach patrons how to create their own. I think, as with Ancestry.com, a staff member could create a program about bullet journaling by using online resources to learn the basics of bullet journaling and then create a program around those basics.

Alternatives:

  • I think a journaling program for kids and teens would be a great program to offer to give kids a place to create, imagine and explore.
  • After reading The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Pérez, I’d also like to try a program for kids about creating their own zine. Making a zine out of a piece of paper looks very simple, you can find instructions on how to fold and cut paper into an eight-page zine on Brightly.

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the 2018 Blogging from A to Z Challenge. For this year’s theme, I’ll be offering you a library program plan with everything you to need to re-create it at your own library. Most of these programs we’ve offered in the past, others are programs I’d like to try in the future. I’m always looking for new inspiration and I thought you might be too!
