#blogbookaday: Go Big or Go Gnome
Summary: “Laugh your whiskers off with Albert the Gnome in this charming and funny picture book about friendship, self-acceptance — and beards!
A beard is the biggest point of pride for a Gnome, but poor Al can’t sprout a single whisker. Each year, Al feels left out of the Beards International Gnome-athalon, B.I.G.
So Al decides to go BIG or go Gnome! It’s a close shave, but with a hidden talent and the help of his friend, Gnorm, Al learns accepting that you are different is the key to fitting in.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: Al, the gnome is the only gnome without a beard, which means he can never win first place at the Beards International Gnomeathalon (B.I.G.). But, Al learns that he’ got a talent for haircutting and beard design, which might just win him first place after all. This sweet story about friendship and and acceptance doesn’t just have a great message, it’s also a joy to read!
Personal Reaction: I’ve said it before – I love a good pun and this book is full of them. It’s definitely chuckle-worthy and is a lot of fun not only to read but to look at as well as each gnome has their own particular beard style. And I’ll be honest, these gnomes are much cuter than the garden variety gnomes that you often see in a person’s backyard!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
