#blogbookaday: Charlotte and the Rock

30764984.jpgSummary:  “Charlotte has always really wanted a pet, so when her parents present her with one for her birthday she expects a cat, dog, or maybe a bird. Instead, she receives a rock. Rocks can’t cuddle, fetch, or even help her eat her vegetables, but that doesn’t stop Charlotte from loving her rock as if he were real. If only he could love her back…or can he?” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: This sweet little story about a girl who wants a pet in the worst way. When she gets a rock as pet, she’s a little disappointed, but does her best to be the best pet owner she can be. The ending of the story has a great surprise and a reward for Charlotte who loves her pet rock, Dennis with all her little heart.

Personal Reaction: The 70s vibe of the illustrations fit in with the pet rock phenomenon of that era. With sweet ink drawn shapes and swatches of watercolors makes these illustrations absolutely adorable. With the idea of kindness rocks being a fun programming idea for libraries, this would be the perfect story to accompany the program!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
