#blogbookaday: Nothing Can Frighten a Bear – Literacious
Summary: “Daddy Bear insists he’s the scariest creature in the forest — didn’t you know that nothing can frighten a bear? When a noise in the night awakens Baby Bear, he starts to believe maybe there is something scarier out there than Daddy Bear. The bears set out to investigate. But as the monsters vanish one by one, it looks like Daddy Bear might not be so brave after all! This hilarious, rhyming text about bedtime frights is a perfect read-aloud with a funny refrain.” (Taken from Goodreads) Review: A rhyming and counting book paired with bedtime theme is the perfect story for the whole family. Baby Bear is certain he’s heard a monster, so the whole family goes out into the night for an adventure looking for the monster. Along the way they begin losing family members as they get stuck in trees, the stream and the mud. Soon it’s just Daddy Bear and Baby Bear when they hear a noise behind them… what could it be? Personal Reaction: I thought this was a fun story and really loved the dark illustrations of the woods at night, while keeping it light enough not to scare little ones. My favorite part was toward the end when Daddy Bear became frightened by the “monsters” because it shows kids that daddies can have a wide range of emotions as well. This story would work well with toddlers and preschoolers who may be frightened by monsters looming in the night and might even encourage the family to go on their own hunt to look for monsters around the house! Title: Nothing Can Frighten a Bear Author: Elizabeth Dale Illustrator: Paula Metcalf Publisher: Nosy Crow Publication Date: January 2, 2018 This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
