#blogbookaday: Round
Summary: “If you look closely, you will find that the world is bursting, swelling, budding, and ripening with round things awaiting discovery—like eggs about to hatch, sunflowers stretching toward the sun, or planets slowly spinning together for billions of years.Whimsical and imaginative, this poetic ode to all that is round and full of wonder by the Newbery Honor–winning author and poet Joyce Sidman, with illustrations by the two-time New York Best Illustrated Book award recipient Taeeun Yoo, inspires curiosity and wonder for this (round) little earth we call home.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: A beautiful poem focusing on all the things a little girl loves that are round. This is a fun look at all different types of round objects throughout nature. The sweet illustrations capture the wonder of the natural world from the eyes of a child. This would be a great title to share with toddlers and preschoolers and would make a great title to introduce how circles are a part of nature in a STEM storytime.
Personal Reaction: I enjoy Joyce Sidman’s accessible poetic style for young kids that truly opens up your eyes to the wonderful world around you. I also like that this title focuses not on what specific ecosystem, but a variety of plants, animals, and interactions allowing many children to be able to find their world in these illustrations.

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
