#blogbookaday: The Word Collector

35566693.jpgSummary:  “Some people collect stamps.
Some people collect coins.
Some people collect art.
And Jerome?
Jerome collected words . . .

In this extraordinary new tale from Peter H. Reynolds, Jerome discovers the magic of the words all around him — short and sweet words, two-syllable treats, and multisyllable words that sound like little songs. Words that connect, transform, and empower.

From the creator of The Dot and Happy Dreamer comes a celebration of finding your own words — and the impact you can have when you share them with the world.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Jerome is a collector of words and after a slip and fall he realizes that even though his words are great in the lists he creates, they can be even better when placed next to each other and shared with the world around him. This story would make a great jumping off point for a lesson in vocabulary or a search through the dictionary to find some amazing words of our own. This is a must read for kids from preschool through elementary school (and beyond).

Personal Reaction: I love how powerful picture books can be and Peter Reynolds is an author and illustrator who knows how to do it. I adore this book and it’s powerful message about the power words can have (in a positive way). I love that Jerome learned to string his words together and the create poetry and songs with them. Words definitely have an impact when you share them and I love that Jerome learned how he could use his words to connect with the people around him.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
