#blogbookaday: BunnyBear

2.jpgSummary:  “Although Bunnybear was born a bear, he feels more like a bunny. He prefers bouncing in the thicket to tramping in the forest, and in his heart he’s fluffy and tiny, like a rabbit, instead of burly and loud, like a bear. The other bears don’t understand him, and neither do the bunnies. Will Bunnybear ever find a friend who likes him just the way he is?” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: This is the story of a bear who feels like he was always meant to be a bunny and how the other bears and bunnies just don’t understand him – expect one, a little bunny who doesn’t fit in either. This sweet story of being you, finding your place in the world, and accepting differences would make a great read aloud for preschool and early elementary school age kids. The text is just adorable, with sentences like, “They were tiny and fluffy and bouncy, like Bunnybear’s heart.” and “Bunny whispers were one of BunnyBear’s favorite sounds.”

Personal Reaction: Between the adorable text and sweet, sweet illustrations, this is a story that needs to be on everyone’s shelf and is a truly a great story of acceptance and identity. It would work well in families, schools, and in the library and it might be fun to see what the kids come up with if they were to pick an animal and then combine it with another animal – what would the animal do, eat, look like – a fun project for sure!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
