#blogbookaday: The Antlered Ship

12Summary:  “An inquisitive fox sets off on a seafaring voyage with a crew of deer and pigeons in this enchanting tale of friendship and adventure.

Marco the fox has a lot of questions, like: how deep does the sun go when it sinks into the sea? And why do birds have such lizardy feet? But none of the other foxes share his curiosity. So when a magnificent ship adorned with antlers and with a deer for a captain arrives at the dock looking for a crew, Marco volunteers, hoping to find foxes who are as inquisitive as he is that can answer his questions. The crew finds adventure and intrigue on their journey. And, at last, Marco finds the answer to his most important question of all: What’s the best way to find a friend you can talk to?” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked this book up, but I was pleasantly surprised by the story of adventure, friendship and the quest to answer questions. With a sailing ship, stormy seas, pirates and soggy sailors this delightful story of friendship is perfect for the kids in your life that ask questions from dawn until dusk and are always looking for adventure. Follow along with Marco, Sylvia and Victor as they search for the perfectly tasty island and the answers to the unanswerable questions that Marco continues to ask.

Personal Reaction: I absolutely loved the illustrations in this book – they are draw in pencil and pen and then colored digitally and they are soft and detailed and perfect for this adventure story on the open sea. I also loved Marco’s questions about the world – maybe not your typical questions, but questions I can totally see young children asking when they curious about the world around them.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
