#blogbookaday: The Little Red Cat Who Ran Away and Learned His ABC’s (the Hard Way)

33784360.jpgSummary:  “It starts with an ALLIGATOR and a BEAR chasing a CAT. When a DRAGON (and a chicken and an egg!) join in pursuit, things start to get REALLY interesting. A wild and wacky chase through snow and ice, and to jungles and over mountaintops, leads the whole crew to a wonderful realization: They’re better off as friends.
From New York Times bestselling author and Caldecott Honor recipient Patrick McDonnell comes an exciting new take on the alphabet book for everyone who has ever wondered what’s just beyond the front door.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A nearly wordless picture book that takes a little thought as you run through the alphabet with the little red cat. With Patrick McDonnell’s signature illustrations of pen and ink with watercolors, this is a laugh out loud chase over mountains and through the jungle as unexpected characters continue to show up, in the end helping the little red cat find his way home!

Personal Reaction: I think my favorite spread had to be for the letter “E” and rather than trying to explain it (and ruin the fun), I expect you to pick up this book and find out for yourself! This is an adorable alphabet story that is great to use with kids that are ready to help tell the story with you due to the lack of text. Kids’ imaginations will soar as the little red cat runs away from home and later tries to find his way back. And after you read the story, you’ll have to step outside yourself and find the letters of the alphabet in your neighborhood!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
