#blogbookaday: The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors

31215005.jpgSummary:  “You’ve played the game. Now read the legend of how it all began . . .
Long ago, in an ancient and distant realm called the Kingdom of Backyard, there lived a warrior named ROCK.

Meanwhile in the Empire of Mom’s Home Office, a second great warrior sought the glory of battle. And his name was PAPER.
At the same time, in the Kitchen Realm, in the tiny village of Junk Drawer, lived a third warrior. They called her SCISSORS.

These three were the strongest, smartest, and fastest in all the land. Time and again they beat the most fearsome opponents they could find: an apricot, a computer printer—even frozen, breaded, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets! But when the warriors finally meet each other, the most epic round of battles begins . . . and never ends. That is why, to this day, children around the world honor these worthy adversaries by playing ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS!” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: This is such a fun read aloud story that is sure to get kids laughing (and playing rock, paper scissors)! With lots of speech bubbles and quotes that are completely giggle-worthy (and will probably be repeated often), this is a story that I never thought I needed, but makes my life more complete! Be ready for the ridiculous and enjoy the ride!

Personal Reaction: I’m a huge fan of Drew Daywalt and Adam Rex, so pairing them up was automatic win for me (and I hadn’t even read the book yet). But, they didn’t disappoint – Rock Paper Scissors is a laugh-out-loud story that will have everyone pulling on their battle pants and starting an epic battle of rock-paper-scissors. In fact, this would be the perfect title to read right before indoor recess on a cold/rainy day! There were plenty of places where I laughed out loud and there are places that kids can join in cheering on their favorite character. This is a fun read for everyone!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
