Book Review: Treat Yourself! – Literacious
So, I don’t know why I hadn’t ever thought to create awesome shapes and colors using crispy rice treats, but I hadn’t, until this weekend. I received a copy of Treat Yourself!: How to Make 93 Ridiculously Fun No-Bake Crispy Rice Treats by Jessica Siskin, better known as @mister_crisp on Instagram. She has created some amazing creations using just puffed rice cereal, marshmallows, butter, food coloring and a boatload of imagination. This weekend, I decided to try a simple recipe from the book – a half of a watermelon. It was ranked as an easy recipe and I knew that one stop at the grocery store could get me everything I needed. (Although that burger on the front cover looks awesome!) Honestly, it was so easy, I can’t believe I haven’t done something like this in the past! Jessica did a great job of not only explaining, but also by providing a lot of pictures, so you really understand what she’s talking about in the directions. This whole project took under an hour and really, the hardest part was waiting for the butter and marshmallows to melt before adding the food coloring and cereal. I had so much fun and am eyeing up the book for my coworkers for next week (I ran out of marshmallows and cereal). Then maybe I’ll attempt something super cool and more advanced like the rainbow cake or the emojis for a program for my kids at work. Anyway, this book was fun to page through and the directions were very simple to follow – it’s a perfect gift for a young teen interested in spending some time in the kitchen.
