It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 7/10/17

I didn’t read exactly what I had planned to, but I did get a lot of reading done! I finished Refugee by Alan Gratz, which was amazingly powerful. It’s told from the perspective of three refugees – a young Jewish boy escaping Nazi-occupied Europe, a young girl escaping Castro’s government in Cuba during the 1990s and a young boy’s escape from war-torn Syria in present day. Although each of their stories are different, they also have a lot of similarities and I think this would be a wonderful book to use for a discussion with middle grade and teen readers about what it means to be a refugee. I then spent three days reading a Nora Robert’s trilogy – sometimes you just need a piece of fluff to read that you know what will happen in the end, but is fun just the same.

This weekend I started Maud: A Novel Inspired by the Life of L.M. Montgomery by Melanie J. Fishbane and have The Castle in the Midst by Amy Ephron and The Warden’s Daughter by Jerry Spinelli that I’m hoping to read this week!
