AtoZ Blogging Challenge – Team

2017atozDuring the month of April, I’ll be participating in the 2017 Blogging from A to Z Challenge. For this year’s theme, I chose to look at leadership qualities as I’ve just recently (within the past 6 months) become the director of my public library. We have about 50 staff members, most of whom are part-time employees serving a 30,000 resident community by providing high-quality programs and resources. Each day, I’ll look at one trait and how it’s helped me to become a better director.

I wouldn’t be able to succeed in half the crazy ideas I have without the amazing team I have working with me. It really is that simple and I’m so blessed to be able to work with people who are passionate about what they do and passionate about serving our community – which can be evidenced by the 4.5 months of extra work to weed our entire collection and a whirlwind weekend used book sale fundraiser this weekend. This project would never have happened without our entire staff stepping up to work on the project.

I also think it’s important to show my staff that I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and jump in where I’m needed – covering a public desk, covering books, running a program. I hope that by being a hands-on leader, my staff is willing to ask for my help when necessary and is also willing to roll up their own sleeves when work on a  new project needs to happen!
