It's Monday, What Are You Reading? 1/18/16

Over the past week I finally got to read I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – a world that I was so intrigued by, with two protagonists sharing the same story from two time periods with two points of view. I think John Green, Sarah Dessen and the like would enjoy this story – definitely for a YA audience and very well done.

I also got the chance to read Drowned City by Don Brown and Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom by Lynda Blackmon Lowery both which won the Sibert Honor Medal.

Children and young adult non-fiction titles are done in such an accessible way and would make great companions to classroom lessons on the topics.  It’s so much more interesting to read these than the stuffy, old-style textbooks.

This week, I’ve got a couple of books at home that I need to work on – Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan and Treasury of Norse Mythology by Donna Jo Napoli for a Norse mythology program I’m hosting next month. Plus, Most Dangerous: Daniel Ellsberg and the Secret History of the Vietnam War by Steve Sheinkin and Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad by M.T. Anderson.  A lot of heavy reading, but things I’ve had on my TBR list for quite a while.
