Book Review: I Am Yoga

Today you, my reader, are getting a Bonus! Book Review & Resource! I thought that I Am Yoga was done in the best possible way!  The text is beautiful and the illustrations are gorgeous with washes of color and poses that kids will be able to do at home with their families.  Susan Verde took the essence of yoga and distilled in a way that makes sense to children – easy to understand and yet still so powerful.  And I couldn’t think of a better illustrator than Peter H. Reynolds, author and illustrator of The Dot to illustrate this story with beautiful, vibrant colors and simple pen sketches.  I can’t wait to use this in my yoga storytime – the kids are going to love it!

The other part of this book review I want to share with you is that Emily Arrow, singer and songwriter has done a beautiful song with lyrics based on the story.  She might have one of the coolest jobs in the world as a kidlit singer/songwriter!  I think I now have a new inspiration for finally learning to play my ukulele.  And she has done absolutely adorable songs for a number of children’s books.  The best news of all is that her first album will be debuting in February and you can pre-order it now!  And yes, I can attest that her songs are just as cute as they sound and would make perfect additions to any storytime!

So definitely check out I Am Yoga written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds and check out Emily Arrow’s song based on the book!
