ALA Midwinter Conference & Youth Media Awards

I’m super jealous of all my library friends who are spending a fantastic weekend in Boston at the ALA Midwinter conference.  I’m going to be following the #ALAMW16 hashtag to see what’s happening and the #alaleftbehind hashtag to commiserate with other librarians stuck at home.
The conference is very early this year, usually happening toward the end of January, but I like having it this early for a couple of reasons.  In most public (and I would assume academic) libraries, programming is still at a minimum, while we wait for everyone to get back into the school schedule.  We have some programming going on right now, but we begin storytimes and much more programming in the next few weeks.

The other reason I like having the conference this early is because everyone is still talking about the “Best of 2015” and the Youth Media Awards are getting announced…. on MONDAY!  I’m not really the type of person who cares for the Oscars, Golden Globes, etc.  But, the Youth Media Awards come around and I get super excited!  I love following the live award presentations and hearing the audience respond to the announcements.  It’s so much fun!  I’ll be at work early on Monday, making sure I don’t miss a moment.
