I'll Be Home for Christmas

I figured I write this up  in advance, so that as I’m driving home for the holiday, I’ll have something posted to my blog.  I am so lucky that my commute is within walking distance, but that leaves me little time to listen to audiobooks in the car or keep up with podcasts.  So, I love getting the chance to drive for a long period of time and listen to a great audiobook or catch up on some podcasts that I’m falling behind listening to.
To get to my parents, it’s about a five hour drive – just enough to make you want to get out of the car at the end of the trip, but not too much that you have to stop multiple times or even over night.  My extended family lived pretty far away from us growing up, so it wasn’t uncommon to take 6+ and 10+ hour trips around the country to visit family during the holidays.  My parents did a great job of keeping the four of us relatively happy and enjoyable for most car trips.  We listened to audiobooks, music, played car trip games, had special snacks and drinks and picnics at roadside stops.
As for today, I’m catching up on the Let’s Get Busy podcast by Matthew Winner; Play, Memory by Julie Sternberg; and Picturebooking by Nick Patton.  Plus, I also grabbed Paperboy by Vince Vawter which we used as a book discussion choice this summer and I didn’t get the chance to read it and The Isle of hte Lost by Melissa De La Cruz (A Descendeants Novel) – I figured I should see what all the hype is about!  I hope everyone has a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break!
