Sunday Storytime Challenge #2
I’ve done a couple of wordless picture books in my storytime so to varying degrees of success. I think by far my most effective wordless picture book in storytime was Where’s Walrus? by Stephen Savage. The kids adore helping me and the zookeeper find the escaped walrus from the zoo. I’ve also shared The Line by Paula Bossio and The Girl and the Bicycle by Mark Pett. Both would have worked with an older audience, but my kiddos were just not quite ready for it.
I really enjoy showing parents and caregivers how to effectively use wordless picture books at home. They great for interacting with children and the story can change every time you read it together. They are also a great tool to encourage use of vocabulary, stretching imagination and learning about beginning, middle and end.
