It's Monday, What Are You Reading? 6/29/2015

25634727This week I read, Rules for Stealing Stars by Corey Ann Haydu, The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin, A Handful of Stars by Cynthia Lord and The Boys in the Boat:The True Story of an American Team’s Epic Journey to Win Gold at the 1936 Olympics by Daniel James Brown (Young Reader’s Edition).  I really enjoyed most of these books, but after Haydu’s and Benjamin’s, I’m going to need to read some happy books for a little while – both were sad, very good, but sad.  I really enjoyed the Olympic book about a crew team during the Depression – these are the stories that are so interesting that seemingly are untold.  Thankfully the author made a point of meeting Joe Rantz and listening to stories of his childhood and his journey to a gold medal during Nazi control in Germany.
I’m planning on getting a little reading in before heading to my parents’ home for a holiday weekend filled with extended family, friends and food.  I’m not sure how much reading will happen there, but I’m so excited to see my siblings, parents and everyone else!  My goal for the week is to read The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz, author of Splendors and Glooms.  I’ve seen a few reviews about it, so I’m excited to get started.
