Unfortunately, I didn’t get to all the reading I wanted to last week.  So, I definitely want to read Mark of the Thief this week (it’s the only one I didn’t get to this week), other than that, I’m going to read The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt.  Somewhere along the line, I never got a chance to read this one, if you can believe it!  And on Saturday we’re going to a Children’s Literature Conference where Gary Schmidt will be speaking, so I figure I’d better read it before we go!  I’m also looking for a really fun read aloud for a camp book for my seven and eight year old campers and a co-worker suggested Hocus Pocus Hotel by Michael Dahl, so I’m going to try and read a little of that.  I’m not sure how much else I’ll get to this week, but I might try and find something on the shelves that passed me by, plus I have a couple new books coming through the processing room that I can’t wait to read!
island-dr-libris-200As for what I read last week – I absolutely LOVED Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan – fell completely into the story and I blame this book as the reason for not wanting to start something else this weekend, it was that good.  Taking Flight was an absolutely fascinating story about a young woman who has beaten the odds to become a ballerina after surviving as a young child in war-torn Africa.  I didn’t think the writing was that great – but the story was interesting.  And The Port Chicago 50 was another story from the history books that seems to be bypassed in high school education.  I was amazed, though not very surprised at how these men were treated for trying to serve their own country!
Amendment:  I just got The Island of Dr. Libris by Chris Grabenstein through ILL… I will be starting this tonight!  Can’t wait!
