Toddler Storytime – PA's One Book
Today’s focus for storytime was around the Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child Initiative. “One Book, Every Young Child is made possible through a collaboration of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Please Touch Museum, and State Museum of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Library Association, Pennsylvania Center for the Book, Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children, The Pennsylvania Child Care Association and PennSERVE. This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by Pennsylvania’s Office of Commonwealth Libraries.”
During our six-week spring session, I have a back-to-back toddler storytime at 10:00am and 11:00am (plus a preschool storytime at 1:00pm) making for a very busy Tuesday! My first group of kids was 13 kids plus their adults and my second group was probably about 10 kids with their adults. It’s so nice to have a little bit of a smaller crowd – it makes it easier for me to do storytime, I don’t have to raise my voice as much, everyone can see the books and flannelboards and we had a lot of fun learning our new wiggles song – “A Ram Sam Sam.” I ended up looking at a number of Youtube videos, all of which are a little different” and based our version heavily on Jbrary’s version of the song with just a few adjustments.
