SLJ's Battle of the Books
Each year School Library Journal created a Battle of the Books focusing on 2014 children’s and young adult literature. The 2015 judges have been announced and each battle is judged by a different person. What is really fun (and sometimes frusturating) about Battle of the Kids’ Books is that the battles are created alphabetically meaning you never know who is going to battle one another and they can be two very different books that can be difficult to judge against each other.
The battle begins with 16 children’s and YA books – now these children’s’ books are usually focused on middle grade novels (and information text), not necessarily picture books. Follow along with the judging by checking in with the Battle Commander on Twitter using the handle @SLJsBoB or follow on the SLJ blog!
My favorite part is that one book that lost in an earlier round becomes “Undead” and reawakens like a zombie to battle for the winner in the final round! I’ve got a few more books to read on the list, I’d better get to it – judging begins March 9th!
