Black History Month Book Display – Literacious
As many of you know, this month celebrates Black History and for the occasion, rather than putting up the typical biographies of African Americans, I took the time to create a Coretta Scott King Book Award table display with award winners and honor books galore! I posted information about the award as well as provided both author and illustrator awards on the table. And then just yesterday, I was able to put up a sign with the new 2015 winners! I hope that this will enlighten patrons to the wonderful, diverse titles that are available and are well-written and illustrated. It’s my hope that throughout the year, we can also offer book displays that support the Hispanic and Asian communities as well as other diverse books to encourage our patrons to teach their children about difference and similarities around the world. After this year’s awards being so diverse in format, genre, and themes, it’s more important than ever that we teach our patrons that children can find themselves in the books they read and they can learn about the world around them as well.
