The Nowhere Box – Literacious
This book grabbed my attention right away – the cut-out, painted, and pencil sketched drawings fit perfectly with the story about a little boy frustrated by his even littler brothers always getting in the way of his fun. So, he decides to go Nowhere in a washing machine box and has a glorious adventure until he realizes that Nowhere can be awfully lonely. He immediately sets a course for home and goes back to playing with his brothers. This would make a great read aloud in storytime with a focus about boxes, imagination, or sibling relationships or a one-on-one story for older siblings. There is limited text, but the illustrations do an amazing job of describing the boy’s feelings about his brothers and his imagination at what Nowhere could be – outer space, a pirate ship, or a medieval castle.
