Sensory Play at Home

I’m currently working on putting together a brochure for sensory play at home.  Within the brochure, I’ve got a little information about what makes sensory play so important for little ones, six recipes to make at home using typical household ingredients, and a whole slew of ideas on the back that are easy to do and fun to explore!
We are a Family Place Library and provide Parent/Child Workshops seasonally which allow parents/caregivers and their young children (ages 1 – 3) to play with developmentally appropriate toys and consult with child development experts.  These experts range from nutritionists, to parenting centers, to music therapy teachers, to pediatric dentists and more.  Parents/caregivers are able to ask questions about their child’s development in a low-key informal setting.  During this time, we always have an exploration table with finger paints, stickers, play dough and more.
In January, we also plan on offering a few sessions of art exploration for kids with fun activities that kids can explore and get messy.  With that in mind, I decided to create a brochure for fun family activities that can be done during the upcoming cold, wintery months.
Pinterest is a great place to find sensory activities for little ones, and if you Google it, you’ll find a number of mommy blogs with tons and tons of ideas.  I tried to find six different “recipes” of activities that are easy to make and can be played with more than at one sitting – play dough, finger paint, puffy paint, slime, sensory bags and stained glass windows.  I’m also going to add other activitites on the back in a list that require less direction – playing with pasta (cooked or uncooked), sorting socks in the laundry, shaving cream in the bathtub, and more.
Although this isn’t the typical “reading list” brochure, I think it will be of high value to parents looking for something to keep their little ones busy during the too-cold days that are coming up!  Here’s the most recent changes, I’ve made to the brochure!
