Cruise Into Kindergarten

I’m currently on a steering committee to create an early literacy umbrella program for the state of Pennsylvania filled with resources for parents, educators, and librarians to use to prepare young children for school.
This is is a really exciting program that will help children’s librarians by offering an umbrella program where all story time and young children’s programs can be placed under, using the same artwork, and the same principles, which will help educate parents about the importance of early literacy.
Public libraries are in a unique position to provide early literacy programs from birth to kindergarten, not only focused on story time, but also STEM programming, art exploration programs, and play workshops. All of these experiences provide children with strong early literacy skills, which in turn help them become successful in school.
I’m so excited to be a part of this program because I think it’s so important for libraries to take advantage of the position we are in, to help our communities become even stronger with early literacy programs for our youngest patrons.
