Enchanted Library – Success!
With the help of 20 middle school students, staff, and hours of work our 6th Annual Enchanted Library was a success! We had 310 community members take 16 tours through the library in 2.5 hours on Friday evening.
All of the actors and tour guides did a great job!
Cam Jansen, Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, Sammy Keyes, Lemony Snicket, Nate the Great and Sherlock Holmes were all hits. Their costumes, props, and acting skills were all talked about by the parents and kids who took the tour.
I am so proud of how well the kids did! I think my favorite part was when the kids realize that sometimes adults are not always the most respectful. A few played game son their phones, browsed the shelves, and in general didn’t pay attention to the tour. I was so happy to see kids upset, not because they were upset but because they worked so hard and felt (and deserved) to have respect shown to them.

I’m glad things went well.
As to adults on the phone, kids are sometimes rude, too. Maybe they will think about this when they aren’t paying attention to the teacher or librarian.

I plan on bringing up that very point at our next meeting! Maybe it will make them realize how they look when it happens at school… It at least to be more conscience of the issue.

I am a homeschooler and good friends with our children’s librarian. We have become inspired to hold our own Enchanted Library and got the go ahead from the higher ups! Do you have any resources we can use, particularly scripts? Do you also have any newbie tips to help us have a successful event?
