Children's Book Council

cbcprofileThe Children’s Book Council (CBC) “is the nonprofit trade association of children’s book publishers in North America, dedicated to supporting and informing the industry and fostering literacy.”  That really means that the CBC works closely with children’s book publishers to professional development, marketing, and advocacy as well as partnerships with national organizations.  I am currently serving a two-year term as an ALA intern to the CBC.  We have meetings twice a year to find ways to connect children’s’ book publishers and librarians together.  Before accepting this position, I didn’t know a lot about the CBC, but I’m finding in them wonderful resources for librarians, families, and book publishers alike.  They have amazing reading lists, which I mentioned a few days ago, especially their diversity reading list!
The CBC is also a HUGE partner in Children’s Book Week established in 1919 and is considered the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country.  The Children’s Book Week website is also a great source of information with a digital toolkit that librarians can use to create their own celebration.  The Children’s Book Council has a passion for children’s literature that more people need to be aware of – not just librarians, but authors, illustrators, and families too!
