National Poetry Day – Literacious
Contrary to what I believed (Poetry Month being April), National Poetry Day is on October 2nd. Upon further research (because that’s what I do)… it’s National Poetry Day in England! That being said, I’m going to share a few of my favorite poetry books that are accessible to all ages. In the Sea by David Elliott A wonderful book, that has beautiful illustrations that works really well for story time! And it’s a great way to introduce parents with young children to reading poetry! National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry: 200 Poems with Photographs That Squeak, Soar, and Roar! This book has amazing photographs of all types of animals with poetry about them as well. A perfect book for animal lovers! Guyku: A Year of Haikus for Boys by Bob Raczka If you’re looking for a way to connect boys with poetry, try Guyku – a perfect fit! Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse by Marilyn Singer If you have had the chance to see this book, it’s insanely creative and absolutely genius! UnBEElievables: Honeybee Poems & Paintings by Douglas Florian A great way to incorporate informational text and poetry together! With fun, bright paintings as well! *and of course, anything by Shel Silverstein!
