100 Children's Books to Read in a Lifetime
A new list popped up on Amazon from the book editors about the 100 Children’s Books to Read in a Lifetime of the 100 books on the list, I’ve actually read 80 and many of the ones that I haven’t had the chance to read yet are actually classics that I somehow missed growing up – Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, Paddle-to-the-Sea, The Call of the Wild and The Jungle Book to name a few. What I was glad to see was that they not only included classics, but also included things like Harry Potter, Wonder, and Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site.
Along with this list, is a list of books that readers voted on from the social networking site, Goodreads. Many of the books were similar, but Goodreads readers chose many books that I’m surprised were missing from the Amazon list such as Because of Winn-Dixie and Blueberries for Sal. On the other hand, I would argue that some of the reader’s choice books are considered more on the young adult side of children’s literature, but many people are unfamiliar with how children’s and young adult literature is categorized.
If anything, it’s interesting to see what people feel are significant works of literature and art that people should be familiar with. I think I’m going to take a closer look at some of those classics and add them to my TBR list.
