National Book Festival

poster_enlargeI wish they hadn’t changed the dates for the National Book Festival!  It used to be mid-September which gave me enough time to start breathing after our summer reading program finished and to enjoy a long weekend away from work.  I won’t be making my trek down to Washington D.C. this year, as I’m taking a 4-day weekend to enjoy the last little bit of summer before our fall programming begins, but if you’re in the area, definitely check out this amazing event that brings together book lovers, authors, illustrators, publishers, and more. This year it will be held on Saturday, August 30th from 10:00 am – 10:00 pm in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  And the best part – it’s FREE!!!
The festival will have author and illustrator talks happening all day long, you can get book signed by your favorites and it’s a great place to meet new friends who love books as much as you do!  With authors such as Dav Pilkey, Jack Gantos, Kate DiCamillo, and Peter Brown, I’m so upset I won’t be there.  There are also always some really great adult authors and poets as well.  For more information, check out the Library of Congress website!
