The Summer I Found You
I was looking for a light, easy read after (finally) finishing a book that I kept reading in the hopes it would get better, it didn’t really get better. The Summer I Found You was a perfect choice – a “chick lit” book with a little more substance than the typical teen romantic read. I would say reminiscent of Sarah Dessen’s work, The Summer I Found You is about personal growth while falling for someone totally unexpected. My only gripe – the story didn’t take place during the summer at all…. and I’m very curious about where the title came from.
Kate gets dumped by her boyfriend while still in denial about being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Aidan’s plans included the army, until he loses his arm in Afghanistan and has no idea what else to do with his life. When the two hook up, they both want a distraction, but inevitably begin falling for each other with no idea how it happened. Both are dealing with a lot – emotionally and physically and it takes a while for each of them to come to terms with these issues, but they help each other in ways that their families and friends cannot.’
