A Snicker of Magic

lloyd Snicker_forwebThis has got to be my favorite book this year!  I finished this story yesterday and it’s still filling up my mind (making my newest read that more difficult!), but it’s difficult for me to leave such an enchanting story on the shelf!  A Snicker of Magic is about twelve-year-old Felicity, her family, and the curse to wander that may never be broken.  Felicity’s family moves back to Midnight Gulch where magic used to run through the veins of the townsfolk, that is until a duel took away the magic, the music, and left Midnight Gulch a tiny town with only a snicker (just a little bit) of magic left.  But, whether Felicity knows it or not, she has some magic inside her and needs the perfect friend to help her share her magic with the town.

I fell in love with the characters, Midnight Gulch, and the magic surrounding the story.  Natalie Lloyd is a wonderful writer creating a backdrop so real you can picture it in your mind, with characters that you wish you new in real life, and the belief that magic is real.  I read this as an Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) that I grabbed from the ALA Midwinter conference and I’m so glad I did.  I can’t wait for this to be published to tell everyone I know about it!
