“The 10 Weirdest and Most Wonderful Libraries in the World”
My brother sent me a link to this article last week, but in the midst of ALA Midwinter, I didn’t get a chance to read over it until now. Some of the libraries on the list I’ve heard about – like the biblioburro, a donkey that carries books to children in rural Colombia who would usually have access to books. Other libraris, I never knew existed, such as the Levinski Garden Library in Tel Aviv, Israel. The 3,500 books in this collection are not shelved by author’s last name or the Dewey Decimal system, but rather by the reaction the reader has to it. A very interesting concept for a library whose users are mainly refugees and migrant workers.
I love learning about libraries around the world because it shows how different they can be, but how much people still value books and the written word. For all those who think I won’t have a job in a few years because libraries will become obsolete – just check out this list! Libraries are adaptable and at the same time can continue to provide their communities with the information and recreational reading they are looking for!
