Kate DiCamillo
In case you haven’t heard this week, Kate DiCamillo was named the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature for 2014-15 by Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. A recent creation (in 2008), the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature position raises “national awareness of the importance of young people’s literature to lifelong literacy, education, and the development and betterment of the lives of young people.”
Kate DiCamillo, author of The Tale of Desperaux, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Newbery award winning Because of Winn-Dixie, and 2013’s Flora & Ulysses will be the National Ambassador for the next two years. The theme for her platform will be “Stories Connect Us.” According to DiCamillo, “Reading together can change how we see each other and how we see the world and [helps] us connect to each other.”
