Write & Illustrate Your Own Book Contest

It’s our 39th annual Write & Illustrate Your Own Book Contest. This contest was started by a previous children’s librarian who worked in our library for over 30 years. Each year, children submit there books to be judged in each grade level by our elite panel of judges from the community. This year 232 entries were submitted and we hosted an amazing award ceremony this morning. We had over 175 people at the award ceremony- kids grandparents, aunts and uncle, sand families came to celebrate their accomplishments. Each child who receives an award (in grades K – 8) is given a gift card to Amazon (we no longer have a bookstore I our community). Parents and kids alike were very appreciative of this contest and we like to encourage the children’s creativity and imagination. The exciting part for me is that the kid’s books are bound and added to out collection. There books are also added to the catalog and they can search for their books and check them out. We have elementary sschoo, teachers who visit the library and check out they contest books from many years ago. This is a collection that is unique to our library and kids love it!
