The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
Holly Black has a great imagination for all things fantasy, creepy, scary, and different. She is the co-author of The Spiderwick Chronicles series as well as the author of the recently published book, Doll Bones (which I felt was even creepier than this one!). Her most recent book, The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a vampire book (which I was getting a little tired of) but done in a new and interesting way! What I really enjoyed about this book was the fast-paced, high-energy storyline with flashbacks to further the story. The story also had a strong female lead character in Tana, the only human to survive a party gone wrong. Tana later struggles as she is chased by vampires as she tries to save herself, her ex-boyfriend, and a vampire with a secret. The only place safe enough for them to go – Coldtown. With an interesting take on the changing process from human to vampire, this is a must-read for older middle school and high school girls looking for a great vampire story that keeps you on edge, while still adding just enough romance to make it work. Black also uses today’s social media tools in the story to create a realistic world that kids today can relate to.
This is the perfect read for this time of year with Halloween fast approaching, and don’t miss the book trailer for The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. For more information about Holly Black and the others books she’s written, check out her website!
