The Wizard of Dark Street

9668661The Wizard of Dark Street written by Shawn Thomas Odyssey is a fun and entertaining read, mixing a touch of magic with a tale of mystery and the off-beat humor expected from authors like Lemony Snicket.

Oona Crate is a Natural Magician and the Apprentice to the Dark Street Wizard, but she’s not interested.  She wants to be a detective and it’s not until the Dark Street Wizard (who also happens to be Oona’s uncle)disappears that Oona begins to realize how important her magical talents are.  This book has a cast of characters from a very young witch, a blind actor, a set of twins causing their own drama, and a talking pet raven.

The story is extremely fast-paced and keeps you turning the pages until the very end.  I think my favorite part about the book is how everything came together in the end… things I hadn’t thought about since the beginning of the story were brought back to solve the mystery.  This is a go-to story for kids who love mysteries and magic alike.  And the best part is, it’s the first in a series!  For more information about this jack-of-all trades author, take a look at his website.
