There were two things that made me want to read this book – the fist was the cover, I love all the bright colors and it looked like something right up my alley. The second was the author’s last name, I’m a little bit of a Sherlock fan and with a last name like Moriarty, what else am I supposed to think? This book actually takes place in two worlds, the one we are all familiar with and then an alternate world that at one time could be accessed by our world. Madeleine is living in Cambridge, England with her mother and learning about a whole new way of life after leaving her father (and his wealth). As she passes a parking meter one day, a corner of white paper is sticking out and she takes a peak. She soon begins a written relationship with a boy named Elliot from the Kingdom of Cello through a “crack” in the space-time continuum. The story jumps back and forth between these two worlds and what made it a little confusing for me was the chapter breaks and then breaks within the chapter switching between the worlds. I also felt the story was a little longer than it needed to be, but when I finally reached the end I realized that it’s the first in a series, so the author must have set up a lot of the characters and setting in this first book. I really enjoyed the last 100 pages or so, the story came together in a way I never would have expected with a lot of twists and turns! For more about the author, check out her website!
